In Pieces (work in progress)

This is an ongoing research project that delves into memory loss/suppression as a result of developmental trauma.

The work explores a scrapbook crafted by my mother in the 1960s, which later emerged as a focal point of my attention during my early childhood. The recollection of this scrapbook, along with most of my childhood memories until the age of 7, was lost following the sudden separation of my parents. Over time, encountering artworks featuring shapes reminiscent of those in the collage book elicited significant discomfort, prompting repeated but unconscious seeking of such imagery. As I gradually gained insight into my mental health challenges and commenced the process of confronting past trauma, the existence of this collage book became clear and was later confirmed by my mother. Subsequently, I embarked on a journey of experimentation, creating these hand-made images in the darkroom to render these memories more palpable and tangible.
